Off subject from the original two players i know but i saw a video of Brian Clough wading through a load of Notts fans who had invaded the pitch, giving the odd one a slap. Not one retaliated. Imagine that happening now? There'd be court cases galore. Instead, 2 of the fans actually came to the ground and apologised.

how do you lot remember this stuff?, I would definitely have been there all I remember is Jones topping tony gale early on and leeds getting done as they came out the station, the last bits apocryphal as id have been in the ground with my old man.

They had the whole South bank that day and Jones winner was a bit lucky, but they deserved it.
Probably the best support Ive ever seen at UP that day and remember them all sitting down at one point and doing a stand up mexican wave that impressed me.
And I actually quite liked Jones. Would always take the fans banter well and I respect that.

One thing Jones was good at was the psychological side of football... he got in players heads.. deffo did Steve McMahon in that final that the Dons won... McMahon melted after ONE tackle...
Anyone remember when he went to Leeds and we played them early doors?? Still say that was the biggest mob I have ever seen appear from UP tubestation... all looked the same... same haircut as Jones (that stupid birds nest hair do) and loads of them had T-Shirts with Vinnie's Gonna Get You written on it... think he scored the winner that day as well the cunt

I can't even think of another player in the entire league who might have been tougher when he was playing.
Bought up fighting with his brother in a shitty part of Bristol helped his hardness cause.
My phote with Dicks, McAvennie and Alvin has pride of place in my lounge.
Modern football doesn't produce legends like these anymore unfortunately.

he was a great player, but I also think he would be less likely to get as much time on the ball if he played now, a lot of players seemed scared to get near him in those days.
would have loved to have seen the reaction to suarez trying to take a bite out of him though!!!

I made the assumption that he would be unable to control his "urges", but you may be right.
I remember him almost breaking the crossbar in the League Cup semi against Oldham. If that had gone in, it would have been 4-0, and the miracle that 13000 of us were hoping for may have materialised.

If Dicks was playing these days, the opposition players wouldn't get a chance to "simulate".
Of course, he wouldn't be on the field for more than 10 minutes, and would spend most of his career suspended.

I was on the North Bank that evening. Groves kept running up to George Graham, asking to be subbed, or so we were led to believe.
To be fair to the ginger crybaby though, Dicks could've been sent of two or three times over that night.
